An Artist’s Retreat at the Naujene Library, Latvia
A few times a year, my friend and I, along with a small group of amateur artists from Latgale — a region in eastern Latvia — come together to paint, connect, share experiences, and, of course, enjoy coffee and treats. This autumn, we held our latest gathering at the Naujene Library, just outside Daugavpils, Latvia’s second-largest city.
I truly cherish the time spent with other artists. For many years, I was the only one among my friends who painted, and the only person I could really talk to about art was my father — the one who first taught me how to draw. But now, one of my friends has been developing her own painting skills, and I absolutely love her work — it’s bright, full of energy, and wonderfully expressive.
This time, I chose to paint in my own style, using soft earthy and pastel tones. I’ve noticed that lately my painting approach has become more romantic and airy — perhaps a reflection of how I’ve been feeling lately, or simply the calm rhythm of autumn days spent among kindred spirits.
